Roasting makes the garlic much more palatable for dishes that just need a hint of garlic.
Here's a great way to roast garlic in a hurry.
2 garlic cloves
1 Tbsp. olive oil

Peel the garlic cloves. Coat in olive oil. Place in microwave safe dish and microwave on 50% power for 10 seconds. Check with fork or a light touch to see if garlic is soft. It should be very soft. Almost spreadable. Add time 10 seconds at a time if necessary. You don't want the surface to be rippled, though. If it is you've done it too long. I've found it becomes tough if the surface appears rippled.
