From the kitchen of: Alice Corbin passed on by Dawn Corbin
1 c. dates, cut up
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
1 c. hot water
1/3 c. Crisco
3/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. all bran cereal
Combine dates and hot water set aside. Combine Crisco, salt, brown sugar, vanilla, and egg, beat thoroughly. Add dates to egg mixture. Stir. Sift flour and soda, add walnuts, and cereal to flour, add dry ingredients to the liquids. Mix well, Bake in greased loaf pan 350°F for 65-76 minutes.
