1/3 c. shortening
1¾ c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. baking soda
¾ tsp. salt
¾ c. buttermilk

Heat oven to 450ºF. Cut shortening into dry ingredients with a pastry blender until mixed well, should resemble fine crumbs. Stir in just enough of the buttermilk to make dough leave sides of bowl. Round up into ball. To much milk makes dough sticky, not enough makes biscuits dry. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead lightly 10 times. Roll 1/2 inch thick , cut with 2 inch biscuit cutter. Place on un-greased cookie sheet. Bake till golden brown 10 to 12 minutes.
